The writing and analysis of this Ashes series is far superior to the cricket played Alan Ross mixes factual description with expert summaries of the Tests and main tour matches as well as a travel guide based on his journies by car through the Australian countryside and cities. His final reflections on the series as a whole show him to be both an excellent connaisseur of the game and a very talented writer The two sides were evenly matched, both containing honest yeomen than international standard cricketers Richie Benaud erred on the side of caution preferring to draw the series and retain the Ashes rather than push for victory when Austrlia had the upper hand With better English catching these tactics could have backfired on him England surpassed expectations by drawing the series 1 1 but could conceivably have won had their fielding been of international standard. This could not by any means be classed as an outstanding series but the book is worth purchasing for the excellent writing.

I d already read Australia 55 so it s impossible not to compare the two There is a very strong connection between the two books I don t think Australia 63 quite reaches the same heights as its predecessor, but it is very enjoyable all the same, especially if you are familiar with the players involved.
