  2. HBH HBH says:

This is a very readable biography of one of the forgoten figures of late Victorian politics Although it is not the longest and most detailed work, it is a very interesting book It is also a very compelling portrait of a man s transition in his political beliefs through the years and how this led to him never achieving the highest offices in the land.

  3. Hangleton Hangleton says:

Joseph Chamberlain is a very interesting politician, who achieved things at a municipal level in an incredibly short period of time, and managed to be at different extremes on different issues once he moved on to national politics He was unlucky with his wives two died in childbirth, leaving him to look after a few children with family help while politicking The biography was a good length it kept moving through Chamberlain s life and career It could easily have been doubled in length, but would have been daunting and plodding Recommended for an insight into a major figure of his time, who is overlooked in favour of those who made it to be PM.
